Have you or your kids been scratching your scalp lately? Scratching of the head and inexplicable scalp rashes are a sign of head lice.
Kids are the ones that usually get this. This is because they are in an environment with many other kids at school, which makes it easy to transfer the head lice. When kids share hats and combs, the head gets transferred.
To get rid of head lice, you should prevent yourself from getting them in the first place. This means not sharing clothing with other people. Do not use other people’s hats and combs.
To get rid of head lice that have already infected you, get some head lice killing shampoo. These shampoos have pesticide ingredients that can get rid of the head lice. Usually, there are not enough pesticides in the shampoo to harm you, but just enough to kill the head lice.
You also need to comb your hair with a head lice comb and look for the eggs. Do this everyday and look carefully for the head lice. They can be quite small.
Put all your clothes and other fabrics into the washer and dryer and set the heat up high to get rid of the head lice. The hot water should kill the head lice.
For those clothes that cannot be washed, seal it inside a plastic bag. This keeps the head lice inside the bag so that they cannot escape and will eventually die.
Vacuum your entire house and pay particular attention to areas where you may have had contact with such as the couch or chairs.
Sometimes head lice are hardy and the shampoo may not be enough to kill them. If that is the case, get the prescription medication which is much stronger.
If you feel that the medication for getting rid of head lice is causing unwanted side effects, then discontinue using it. Go see a doctor for other ways to get rid of the head lice.
